Oh, SmAlbany!

Daily posts and occasional longer essays about politics, culture, and life in the Capital Region...updated M-F, midmorning

"I write this not as a booster of Albany, which I am, nor an apologist for the city, which I sometimes am, but rather as a person whose imagination has become fused with a single place, and in that place finds all the elements that a man ever needs..." -W. Kennedy, from O Albany!

Who am I?

Who am I?: My name is Matt. I was born in Albany and grew up in Loudonville. I graduated from Shaker in 1996. After that I went to Hamilton College and then Yale University for graduate school.

I am still a student at Yale, finishing my Ph.D in Poltical Science. However, after 4 long years in New Haven, I am gladly back in Latham, where I live with my wife Sarah, who also grew up in Loudonville. Both of our families still live here. I am hoping to complete my Ph.D. in about a year, and (god willing) land a job in the Albany area.

Here's a picture of me and SJC:

Matt,

Nice site.

Let's see:

Shaker: So-So

Hamilton: Legit

Yale: Bush League

Your Better Half: Indeed, your better half. My compliments.

Becky (who posted earlier on this thread): NOT a lady I hope to meet anytime soon

Ph.D.: Excellent

Political Science: You're NOT another Karl Rove wannabe, are you?

Site Design: Very nice

Ron Guidry: Marvelous

Siena Hoops: Timber!!!!!!!!!!

Your prospects: Humor mixed with insight. You don't know it all. Never will. Accept the fact. Get a good attorney. Beware of the Bish! Howie's got a lot of yank in these here parts. Keep bloggin'. You may make the bigs. Most important, that lady beside you in the photo, listen to her. (Think Wes Snipes to Woody in White Men.) And keep your distance from Becky. Best of luck with the site.
