SmAlbany Congressmen...
SmAlbany Congressmen: Well, it looks like the two local military bases will be spared under the new BRAC report that came out this morning in Washington. That's good for about 1,000 local jobs.
Now, don't get me wrong here. I actually like both Sweeney and McNulty (I live in McNulty's district). While they are in different parties, both are sensible moderates. McNulty has made a career out of getting great gobs of money for his district, and Sweeney has worked his way into a position of power in Congress in just 3+ terms. I think both men are above-average representatives. It's just tough to defend individual military bases when everyone knows that every Congressmen in the whole country is saying the same thing about their bases. Some of them have to go, and it could be any of them. Luckily, it wasn't ours this time.
More interesting to me was watching our two local Congressmen, Michael McNulty (D-Green Isand) and John Sweeney (R - Clifton Park), bumble through a defense of their repsective bases (in Watevliet and Glens Falls) on TV last night. Sweeney gave a straight-faced soliloquy on the virtues of Stratton AFB, including it's ability to launch artic missions(!?!) McNulty did his usual spiel about the Arsenal while giving his standard deer-in-the-headlights face to the camera (see photo). Look at those eyes!!!Now, don't get me wrong here.
